First Steps

Free health insurance for pregnant women.

First Steps provides medical, dental and vision benefits through the Medicaid program. It is free of charge and there are no deductibles or co-pays. First Steps may also provide social services to help you have a healthy pregnancy.

First Steps also covers the cost of an abortion, if you want to terminate your pregnancy.

Your medical, dental and vision coverage lasts for two months after your baby is born, or after the abortion takes place. After that, you receive an additional 10 months of coverage, but only for family planning services (birth control).

Depending on where you live in Washington State, services may be offered through a choice of heath maintenance organizations.
